Meet Slāt — a markdown editor for the docs that actually keep your business moving

Proposals. Statements of work. Requirements docs. Resumes when you're hiring or being hired.

Every founder we know writes these constantly, and most of them write them in the wrong tool — Google Docs (slow, opinionated about formatting), Notion (great until you need a clean PDF), or Word (let's not). So we built slāt: a markdown-powered editor designed specifically for the documents that move work forward.

Here's how it works.

Pick a document type, or build your own. slāt ships with templates for the docs you reach for most — proposal, SOW, requirements, resume — each with sensible structure already in place. If your team has its own format, you can define a custom document type once and reuse it forever.

Write with the "/" menu. Hit / anywhere in the editor and you get a command palette for headings, lists, callouts, tables, signature blocks, and more. No mouse hunting through toolbars. If you've used a modern editor, the muscle memory is already there.

See it as you write. Real-time preview shows you exactly what the finished document will look like — formatted, styled, ready to send. No "export to see what you got" surprises.

Export to PDF when you're ready. One click, clean output, ready for the client's inbox or the signed-and-returned pile.

Your content stays on your device. slāt is local-first. Everything you write is stored in your browser via IndexedDB — no servers, no accounts required, no syncing your half-finished proposal to a cloud you didn't ask for. When you want to share something, you choose how.

For a small team, that combination — fast input, real-time preview, custom document types, clean PDFs, and your data staying yours — is most of what you actually need from a doc tool.

Try it at slate-md.com. No signup. Just open it and start writing.
